This old library edition of The Chronicles of Robin Hood has taken a beating over the past 40+ years but the dust jacket is still there and illustrations by C Walter Hodges are still as clear as day.
We read the opening chapter last night and Sutcliff didn’t mess about – we’re straight into how Robin became outlawed. I had to explain to my daughter what a flogging was and also why Guy of Gisborne wanted to cut off the right hands of four men who worked for Robin before he became an outlaw.
